Our Open Day was a fantastic success, with a great turnout despite a particularly hot summer Sunday.

Visitors were treated to an impressive display of boats, cars, tanks and other models from our society and from several visiting clubs. Many of the models were demonstrated in action, which proved to be a particular highlight for visitors. There was a real buzz around the displays, with plenty of questions, conversations and interest in the modelling hobby.

Awards

The day included awards recognising some of the outstanding displays and models:

• Most Entertaining Model – Sedgemoor Modelling Club

• Best Club Display – Sedgemoor Modelling Club

• Best Vehicle Display – Bryn Bach Modelling Club, with a special mention for two of the younger participants

• Best Boat – a Type XXI submarine

The awards were presented with thanks to the team at the Café, which also proved extremely popular throughout the day.

A great community event

The Open Day was made possible by the efforts of many people behind the scenes, from setting up the displays and preparing the site to managing the entrance and providing refreshments, and of all those visitors and clubs that attended.

A particular attraction was the rock crawler obstacle course, which drew plenty of attention throughout the day. The event was also extensively photographed, providing a wonderful record of the models, displays and visitors enjoying themselves.

We are also grateful to the local angling club for making the main lake available for the event. This allowed the boat displays to take place and added considerably to the experience for visitors.

The day generated considerable interest in the society, with a number of visitors enquiring about the hobby and how they could become involved. We were also pleased to make contact with members of other modelling groups, opening up possibilities for future visits and joint events.
